This sculptural hand-painted rolling metal gate depicts the many ecosystems within the preserve. It is the entrance to the Nature Gift Shop in the education center.
“Remembrance” Weedon Island, Florida
Designed and fabricated in 2003, this art glass window was the first commission awarded by the Pinellas County Arts Council. It is a homage to the indigenous people who lived on Weedon Island. It features fishing nets and tools, punctated pottery motifs, and the palm branches that they used for shelter. All this is surrounded by a mangrove border, the special tree that protects and supports the ecosystem.
