Traditional Japanese design motifs infuse this work. The crane is a stylized origami design. Notice the very subtle patterning on the crane’s wings and the classic Asanoha star motif in the corners and border. This motif is infused throughout Japanese design and can be found everywhere from textiles to Buddhist statues. It is a lucky omen pattern representing growth, health, resilience and protection. The crane is surrounded by a swirl of triangular bevels that play beautifully with the light. German mouthblown “cloud” glass contributes to the bird in flight as well as pieces of pale sky-blue German glass which are echoed in the subtle blue stain of the outer Alder wood frame.
