Lionsgate Portal
Created in late summer 2026 during the Lionsgate Portal, this piece carries incredible energy. The Lionsgate Portal is a celestial window the occurs each year between July 26 and August 12. It peaks on August 8th, when the sun is in Leo, the star Sirius rises on the horizon, and Orion’s belt aligns with the great pyramids of Giza. Ancient Egyptians watched for this rising to mark the Nile’s flooding and the start of a new year, and today it is honored as a time of renewal, intention, and new beginnings.
That spirit of transformation lives in the glass. The Portal itself is rendered in a subtle streaky glass, with layered interior crescents above it made from very rare English antique glass. Around it, a light brown opal border frames ribbons of amber and pale green streaky glass, accentuated with bright, clear-yellow berries.
We invite you to view the specifics of each glass type in the section below. This work is framed in Sapele and White Oak.

- Amber Reamy: Reamy glass is mouth-blown flat glass known for its pronounced movement and windy, rippling texture. It often contains large bubbles called “ox eyes.” The texture comes from adding special glass shards to the pot of molten glass just before the gather is taken out. We used Amber Reamy for one of the two colors in the ribbon-like border, choosing sections with lots of movement so the streaks follow the direction of the ribbon.
- Light Brown Opal: Lamberts glass is made by hand in Waldsassen, Germany. Sand, soda, and lime are smelted, colored, and blown into large balloons, which are formed into cylinders, reheated in the oven, and flattened into sheets. Opal glass is translucent, letting some light through while softening it. Here it frames the piece and makes the inner glass appear brighter and more active.
- Green Streaky Hartley Wood: Hartley Wood, from Sunderland, England (founded 1892), is known for its rich, saturated colors. Every piece in this section was cut from a single sheet with wide color variation, from deep olive green to light chartreuse. We cut with the texture and movement in mind, so the streaks follow the curves of the lead lines.
- Small Circles: Look for the small, bright circles scattered throughout the diamond grid background. The rippled texture looks caramel in ambient light and fires up to a vivid orange in direct sun. This vintage ripple glass is from the Oceana series by Youghiogheny Glass, which is hand-mixed and hand-rolled. Youghiogheny was founded in 1976 by John W. Triggs, a renowned color expert in the glass industry.
- Light Green Opal: This is a German glass called Fischer Incredible Streaky. It is an ultra rare glass as the company has not been in existence since Germany was unified. Soft, milky green with subtle streaks of color that add variation and depth.
- Amber Reamy Bubble: For the center of the sun, we captured a large bubble in the amber Reamy glass, creating what looks like a swirl of energy. The sun rays are also cut from amber Reamy, with the streaks carefully positioned to showcase the movement in the glass. They are framed by golden Corella textured glass, which sparkles in the light.
- Yellow Berries: Mouth-blown glass in silver and selenium yellow.
